The creators of The Big Putt, Mike Hicks and Danny Gurley both have a unique perspective that led them to create this breakthrough concept in improving the putting strokes of all golfers, scratch players to beginners.

Hicks has been a PGA Tour caddie for 28 years and carried the bag for 12 seasons for the late Payne Stewart, including major championship victories at the 1989 PGA Championship, 1991 US Open and the 1999 US Open. Despite the attention given to distance, swing mechanics and high-tech equiopment, Hicks knows that the fine line between success and mediocrity is attained on the putting green.

Gurley is a top amateur golfer in the Carolinas and has won the North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship twice (2002 and 2005). He’s been at the top of his competitive game not when he strikes the ball well as much as when he nails putt after putt from four and five feet to save par.

The Technology Behind The Big Putt

The diameter of The Big Putt is 16 percent larger than a regulation golf ball, but it has precisely the same feel as a tournament-quality ball. Mis-hits are magnified and provide immediate feedback, and the larger ball promotes a smooth stroke and requires the golfer to accelarate through impact. The result is razor-sharp performance when the match is on the line.

———————————————————————-

How to Use The Big Putt

Here are some putting drills to use with your Big Putt golf balls. They are designed to maximise the effectiveness of The Big Putt ensuring that you’re getting the most out of the product.

Drill No. 1 – Hit three putts from two feet away with The Big Putt, then move back three feet, four feet, five feet and six feet. Concentrate on making a smooth stroke and accelerating through impact. Then replace The Big Putt with a regulation ball and repeat the drill. You’ll find the target looks huge, your confidence is sky-high and putt after putt will roll into the hole.

Drill No. 2 – A variation on the drill above is to alternate three putts from two feet with The Big Putt and then strike three putts with a regulation ball. Then move back three feet, four feet and so on. It’s also a great idea to practice short putts with left-to-right breaks and then right-to-left breaks.

Drill No. 3 – The Big Putt is also excellent for improving your feel (longer putts in the 20 to 40-foot range). Alternate rolling three putts from 20 feet with The Big Putt then three putts with a regulation ball. Then move back to 30 feet and repeat, then from 40 feet and repeat. You’ll develop your distance control, resulting in a shorter second putt!

This story is for you if…

• You can count the number of sand saves you had last year on one hand.

The Problem

You struggle in bunkers because you usually enter the sand too far behind the ball. This means that your club exits the sand at the ball and fails to take the sand directly underneath it, which the ball needs to ride on as it exits the bunker. You know this is happening to you if you often leave your first attempt in the bunker. Sometimes you may even hit so far behind the ball that the club exits before it. That’s when you end up skulling the ball over the green.

The Fix

Try the “Umbrella Drill.” It’s the easiest way to learn how to make contact with the sand in the right spot and float the ball close to the pin.

STEP 1

Draw a line in the sand that arcs around your body. Think of this line as an umbrella. Draw a second line from the center of the umbrella?this is the umbrella’s handle. Position the ball on the handle line and take your stance (with the ball positioned just forward of center).

STEP 2

Once you’re set, swing your arms along the umbrella line. You’ll notice that as your arms swing in the direction of the arc on the way back to the ball, they pull your sternum over the handle of the umbrella. This forward body move allows you to enter the sand closer to the ball and exit the sand in front of the ball, taking the perfect-size divot to float the ball onto the green.

Touring Australia, she played in exhibition matches and gave clinics around the countryside and taught on board the Princess Cruise Lines all around the South Pacific.

Nancy has been teaching golf since 1974. She has participated in two U.S. Open Championships and played on the Women’s Professional Golf Tour from 1978-1982. Due to health challenges, Nancy left competitive golf and became a business owner in her hometown which led to a degree of Doctor of Naturopathy (N.D.) from the Trinity College of Natural Health in 1999.

Always wanting to learn more to help her students enjoy the game, she joined the LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals in 2004. With the ongoing classes of the LPGA T&CP, Nancy has been able to incorporate that knowledge in her instruction.

“I believe that the LPGA has provided teaching professionals with the perfect tools for helping others enjoy this wonderful sport of golf with a greater capacity.”

When she is not teaching or playing golf, Nancy can be seen walking or throwing a frisbee for her Jack Russell terriers. She also enjoys cooking, photography, occasional trap shooting, sharing information about essential oils/herbs, and making soap.

After joining the LPGA Teaching Division in 2004, I have continued my ongoing education with the LPGA by attending its National Education Program and various seminars.

“My philosophy is to teach basic swing fundamentals by keeping lessons simple and understandable. With the use of the LPGA Student-Centered Swing Model and helping the student understand the basic fundamentals and his/her preferences, the student will be able to better understand his/her own unique swing.”

“I like to work with my students on these fundamentals, using swing drills, teaching aids, and video analysis.”

As a Student, you will in turn get a clearer understanding of HOW to make a change and WHY to make a change with your technique.
